- The vignettes helped me figure out what pieces of information to include or exclude
- Develop strategies for drafting
- The vignettes assignment went from multiple experiences I wrote about to just 3 that connected and built off of each other to support my argument while I was drafting the vignettes
A time I learned a lesson outside of school is when my mom was helping my uncle organize his birthday party. She was put under a lot of pressure and she was doing most of the work. Later in the week it was my moms birthday and the same energy that my mom put into my uncle’s party was not the same energy that he put into hers. This showed me that you shouldn’t do so much for someone if they don’t reciprocate that effort.
Another time I learned a lesson is when I was at a wedding and there was a dance floor. There were a ton of people dancing to the songs while I was sitting at the table watching it all happen and thinking about how much fun they must be having out there as I sit here on my phone. So I promised myself that next time at another party if I wasn’t having fun then I’d gather the courage and I’d go to my grandma who at the time was dancing with someone who had on a gorilla suit. She showed me that you shouldn’t be scared to get embarrassed and should focus on having fun instead.
One last time I learned a lesson was when my uncle started to say that I was rude, spoiled, and that I was always too full of myself. Before that, that family had been judging me at all times and it was very clear. But this time it felt different than it usually has. I wanted to walk into the next meet up with them, reserved and annoyed to show them that I did not like the fact that they were talking bad about me behind my back. The day came and I could not do it. I hated the feeling it gave me. That day I learned that it’s useless to hold grudges and only hurts you more than it helps you.
